PORPHYRY LAYING

 

There are a number of phases in porphyry laying that must be conducted with attention so as to enhance the unique features of Kern® Porphyry.

 

The first phase in the Porphyry laying operation is to carry out a thorough analysis of the ground, the slopes, and loads to be borne. The next phase is the creation of the base layer, which is laid on top of the subfloor, on which the laying of porphyry is effected. The base varies according to the type of element used for the paving; porphyry cubes require a different base than flags. Once laying is completed, compacting is carried out by means of mechanical vibrating tamper in order to compact the layer to the maximum. The joints between the elements are sealed with a binding and water impermeable material. The final phase of porphyry laying is a thorough cleaning by sprinkling the surface with moistened sawdust, then brushing until the cement residuals are completely removed so that the shades of colour of the porphyry natural stone are enhanced.
